Money tips

Annual or monthly billing?

Annual plans are often discounted compared with paying monthly, but they only save money if you'd really keep the service all year.

Step by step

  1. Compare the real numbers

Multiply the monthly price by 12 and compare it with the annual price.

  2. Be honest about usage

Have you used this service every month for the past six months? If not, monthly may be cheaper.

  3. Check the refund rules

Find out whether you can get a partial refund if you cancel an annual plan early.

  4. Remind yourself before renewal

Annual renewals are easy to forget because they only happen once a year. Set a reminder 30 days before.

Good to know: Some companies offer an annual discount if you ask, even when it's not shown on their website.
